Friday Fashion: Harper's Bazaar, Murakami, and Art Basel Miami Beach

Yes, the weather was unusually mild this week, but nothing beats Miami sunshine. So, needless to say, I'm pretty jealous of all the Art Basel coverage streaming across my Twitter and RSS feeds. For the uninitiated, Art Basel Miami Beach is a 4-day extravaganza of art, design, beautiful people, and of course, fashion! Harper's Bazaar combined all four with a pop-up and photo shoot featuring the cheeky, sometimes scary, creations of artist Takashi Murakami.

The Shop

Staged at the Soho Beach House, HB's Murakami-decorated pop-up shop is curated with an array of designer goods. Murant, McQueen, Balmain, and more, fashionable finds abound among little monsters and rich wood paneling.

The Shoot

Preceding Art Basel, HB took Murakami's monsters for a spin around L.A., treating them to lunch, frozen treats, and shopping on Rodeo Drive. Yes, it's a strange combination, but pretty fantastical.

Though primarily a self-taught decorator, Desiré studied at The Art Institute, where she honed a distinct aesthetic largely influenced by the Modern Glamour movement, the theme of her popular design blog, Sukio. Not only is she considered a "closet fashionista," discreetly stashing handbags and shoes whenever possible, but, as an MIT graduate, she’s also an undercover nerd. Fashion, nerdom, and several years as a Washingtonian have combined to shape her unique perspective on interior design.
