Glam it up: The Pink Swan Project

Windor-Smith-Swan-Chair.jpg

SUITE New York tasked the world's top designers to re-imagine a mid-century classic in the name of charity. The Pink Swan Project, benefiting breast cancer research, features 19 customized Swan chairs. All are interesting, but Windsor Smith's design (above) is by far the sexiest and most glamorous. It's the new power chair!

I was inspired by Madonna's corset as a symbol of empowerment for women who are battling breast cancer. The rosy colored base represents a positive outlook for the strong woman who I envision sitting in this chair.

Though primarily a self-taught decorator, Desiré studied at The Art Institute, where she honed a distinct aesthetic largely influenced by the Modern Glamour movement, the theme of her popular design blog, Sukio. Not only is she considered a "closet fashionista," discreetly stashing handbags and shoes whenever possible, but, as an MIT graduate, she’s also an undercover nerd. Fashion, nerdom, and several years as a Washingtonian have combined to shape her unique perspective on interior design.
