Black, White, and Fierce

In yet another intersection of fashion and decor, this spring's ad campaigns remind us of the power of flooring. "Flooring?" you ask. Yes, flooring! Both Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera employ gorgeous black and white floors to create striking spring campaigns. Black and white may seem pretty basic, but in a bold, large-scale pattern, the combination can be fierce!

Carolina's ad reminds me of a design favorite from last year, Grant Gibson's dining room for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Grant painted wood floors to create his octagonal masterpiece. He notes, "I am a huge black and white fan. White brightens the room while the black grounds it."

Whether in a fashion campaign or residential application, black and white always looks good underfoot!
