The name Sukio comes from the Japanese word for "like" or "love" but now has become synonymous with what I find luxe, lovely, and too chic not to share! My aesthetic of choice: MODERN GLAMOUR – a style that marries multiple ideas, viewing traditional notions of glamour through a sophisticated lens. In a word, it’s sooo Sukio! - Desiré

Interiors: Glamorous Surroundings...

I've always loved the idea of a mirrored fireplace surround and this one is executed exquisitely! It's the ultimate focal point especially when paired with so many glammy, sparkly, and shiny things. From the globe chandelier to the Villiers Oak Leaf Chairs, designer Lynne Scalo has created quite the showstopper!

Friday Fashion: The Seersucker Social

Last Saturday, area residents descended upon NW DC dressed in their very best, old-timey regalia for the 2nd Annual Seerksucker Social. The event, organized by Dandies and Quaintrelles, invites locals to don period frocks while partaking in a good, old-fashioned bike ride and social. In fact, part of the bike ride passed by my window. It was insanely fabulous.

Interiors: Coloring the Beltway...

After two posts featuring all white rooms, I'm throwing a little color back into the mix! Though D.C. is known for its traditional and sometimes stuffy aesthetic, designers like Jill Sorensen offer looks that are fresh, fun, and best of all, colorful! If the Beltway were a coloring book, Jill would be the cool kid whose color combos were always more sophisticated and artistic than the rest (Remember that kid? The one who made an outline of Barbie look like a Renoir?) Here, Jill mixes traditional shapes with a vibrant palette. It's a perfect balance between chic and sassy.

If you live in the area, please join us for an upcoming design event featuring Jill and her work!

Interiors: Bright White...

Designer Marisa González Serna uses bright whites to reflect light and provide the perfect backdrop for unique finds like this Venus de Milo replica. The white expoxy floors are not only wonderfull gleaming, but incredibly durable. (On a personal note, the white upholstery reminds me of my first foray into "statement-making" design. The plan - white armchairs against a dark brown wall with an oversized, Scarface movie poster (black and white, of course). I met resistance at every turn. The Crate and Barrel sales rep tried his darnedest to talk me out of white upholstery. A friend was COMPLETELY disgusted by my choice of brown paint. Keep in mind that this was early 2004, prior to the chocolate brown craze that would soon sweep the design world.

I pressed on but could not surmount the fierce opposition to my choice of artwork. I personally thought it was kitschy and ironic. After all, Scarface posters were for dorm rooms and bachelor pads. My mother thought it was simply in bad taste. I eventually yielded and purchased a pair of very nice, but boring, prints from the Bombay Company. They were well-framed, tied together my color palette, and featured more appropriate subject matter like flowers and butterflies. Ugh! Regrets! Lesson learned: Stick to your vision - especially, when it comes to your own space.)

Interiors: King Midas

Though many would frown upon gold-gilded… anything, designer Michael S. Smith demonstrates how to expertly apply the golden touch. This dressing room/bathroom combo finds the perfect balance between glamorous and gaudy.
