Interiors: WhoWhatWow

As mentioned, a mirrored fireplace surround can be absolutely stunning. But for those of us without a fireplace (or a big budget), a mirror-backed mantel is just as nice! This example comes courtesy of WhoWhatWear's fashionable LA office. I'm not sure if the fireplace ever functioned, but it certainly looks cute now!

Interiors: Better in Brazil....

Have you seen the Architectural Digest spread on this Brazilian beauty? It is the Rio apartment of interior designer Alberto Pinto and I'm in love! Modern meets eclectic meets Ipanema!

"The apartment, with its vocabulary of lush colors, rugged textures, and strong silhouettes, not only symbolizes an immense country where emperors once reigned, but one where jungles have always ruled." - AD

Interiors: I Adore the Floor...

Living room by Iain Halliday

Yes, yes, yes. It's all lovely - the drapery, the leather-upholstered window seat, the silver sofa and ikat bergères. This living room by designer Iain Halliday is gorgeous. But the one thing that simply can not be ignored is the floor! This area rug by Beauvais Carpets sports a pattern of such magnificence - overscaled and eye-catching. It's the perfect example of how amping up the size modernizes most anything.

Interiors: Party Pad…

The genius of this living room by Ernest De La Torre lies in its singular, chartreuse sofa. May not sound very revolutionary but that’s where my eye goes every time - to the sofa, the artwork, and back again. It’s the proverbial pop of color in a fully upholstered piece.

So, why a “party pad”? Because three sofas facing a baby grand sounds like a party to me! (At least my kind of party)

Interiors: Go Glamour…

Behold this glamour-ladened living room by Fox-Nahem Design. Still deciding whether I’m more smitten by the tall ceilings, Italian chandelier, or beautiful blue tones (or is that gray?). The tufted chairs by William Haines are also on my radar. How posh.

Interiors: Daydreaming…

Another great room for lounging. This Frank Roop design boasts two daybeds flanking a fabulous fireplace. Some other great features: an interesting wall treatment and mix of furnishings.

Interiors: Living Large...

Living room designed by Thomas Urquijo. Though simple, the artwork makes a bold statement thanks to its large scale. It also offers a great contrast to the room’s many angles.

Fashion Designers at Home

Fashion Designers at Home. Elie Saab and his Paris apartment.

In lieu of color, architect Chakib Richani employs rigorously geometric shapes to compose the stage set, the “scenography,” as he calls it, to accommodate Saab’s family, friends and clients. The result is seductive, unfussy and unpretentious. - Architectural Digest

elements of modern glamour

This room features several key elements of modern glamour. Scale is not only expressed through the height of the ceilings but also in the over-sized floor lamps framing the doorway. There’s lots of luster, from the sheen of the upholstery to the shiny table accessories, including the multiple spheres clustered in the center. Last but not least, the chandelier’s dripping crystals makes the ultimate statement in glamour.

This design also features great balance. The traditional architecture, with its intricate moldings and french doors, provides the perfect backdrop for modern pieces. The dark furniture provides an additional sense of contrast against light colored walls. It all works together to provide a sleek, sophisticated, and, of course, glamorous hangout.
