The name Sukio comes from the Japanese word for "like" or "love" but now has become synonymous with what I find luxe, lovely, and too chic not to share! My aesthetic of choice: MODERN GLAMOUR – a style that marries multiple ideas, viewing traditional notions of glamour through a sophisticated lens. In a word, it’s sooo Sukio! - Desiré

Interiors: Black, White, and Whimsical

Designer Janet Rice’s Dallas home proves that you don’t need a lot of color to make an impact. With a minimalist palette of black and white, Janet uses shape, texture, and pattern to add interest to her living space.

In the living room area, Janet opted for modern pieces including tailored brown sofas and a white buffet by Ligne Roset. The zebra-patterned rug is by Diane Von Furstenberg for the Rug Company.

Interiors should reflect the personality and individual style of the owner. That takes attention to detail, impeccable taste, a discerning eye, unexpected elements, integrity, a minimalist approach, a wink to high/low, patience, and a sense of humor. - Janet Rice

The dining area mixes old with new. Janet reupholstered her grandmother’s chairs and paired them with a black granite and lucite table. Custom doors lead to the family room beyond.

A hand-painted leaf motif adds whimsy to the family room. The occasional chairs are from Janet’s collection and include the JRR Club Chair and Jayne’s Chair, a pink tufted piece named for the designer’s young daughter.

Interiors: Modern Glamour on Mercer Island

Kelly Wearstler has such a powerful and distinct point of view that most people either love it or just don’t get it. I’m sure you know which camp I’m in! And no matter how you feel on the matter, it’s undeniable that her provocative designs are one of a kind. Kelly’s recent project, an 11,000 sqft Mercer Island home, is a perfect example. Here’s a peak courtesy of Elle Décor.

The walls of the entry are painted in Glidden's (Yes! Good ol' Glidden) Onyx Black and the patterned floor uses 3 different marbles. The chandelier is vintage and on the ceiling, a striped wall covering by SJW Studios. Homeowner Lara Sanderson refers to the space as "the Kelly special."

Kelly sacrificed a small, upstairs bedroom to create this double-height library. Of the custom brass spiral staircase, Kelly remarks, "It was like adding a piece of jewelry to the room."

Below: Two purple Venetian glass chandeliers hang above purple, Art Deco dining chairs. Ceilings by De Gournay, walls by Cannon/Bullock, and a rug by... the Rug Company (who else?).

Interiors: David Mann Adds Luster and Light to a Manhattan Duplex

Lacking adequate natural light, designer David Mann incorporated lustrous finishes and reflective surfaces throughout this New York City home. Mann's touches include Venetian-plaster walls with ground mica, polished onyx floors, lots of mirror, and metallic upholstery.

Shagreen-backed cube chairs, Murano-glass lamps, and a silk shag rug in the living room. The mantel is sheathed in gold-leafed glass tile and the dining area's feature wall is covered in antique mirror.

Above: An Hervé Van der Straeten pendant light, brass-and-silver railing, and gray onyx floors in the entrance hall. A salon-style, photo display in the breakfast area. Below: Mirror tile in the bedroom and Sicis glass-mosaic tile in the master bath. So glam.

Interiors: Peter Mikic's London Townhouse

In the spirit of the 2012 Olympics, I’m heading across the pond for today’s post. I originally spotted this London townhouse in Elle Décor and was completely enamored by its midcentury modern sophistication. The designer, Peter Mikic notes, “I wanted the house to look as though Claridge’s hotel had been transported to 1950s Milan.” Definitely, a winning combination.

Masculine Glamour, London Townhouse

In the drawing room, velvet sofas provide plenty of seating while mirrored tiles offer a bit of glitz. The light fixture, consoles, silk wall covering, and rug are all custom-made.

The library showcases more midcentury touches (above), and an antique, Venetian mirror hangs over the fireplace in the dining room (below). The dining room’s table, rug, and light fixtures are custom.

A tufted settee is paired with a custom table and chairs in the breakfast room. Personally, I could eat every meal here.

Like others throughout the house, the guest room’s fireplace surround was carved in India (I spy a Jonathan Adler piece on that mantel!). The walls are adorned with family heirlooms and are papered in hemp. The designer opted for silk wall covering in the master bath and Grand Antique marble that was originally quarried for the Vatican. Impressive.
