Friday Fashion: Tina Turner for Vogue Germany

You’re simply the best!

Like many folks, those lyrics join the soundtrack of my childhood. And now I find it incredibly apropos to apply them to Tina Turner herself! I mean, really. How many singers can leave us in absolute awe like Tina can??? From the high-energy "Proud Mary" performances to her gritty rock ballads, she IS simply the best.

Wearing vintage Armani, Tina still exudes the fierce confidence and swagger of her younger days, as captured in German Vogue’s April cover story. Not only does she look fabulous, but, at 73, she’s the oldest person to ever grace the cover of Vogue. All hail the queen!

 

If you're still not convinced, check out this 2009 performance of "Proud Mary." Do the math, imagine someone of similar age (Mother, grandmother, Hillary Clinton…), and proceed to be impressed. I just wish her backup dancers understood the spirit of the song.

Friday Fashion: Kate Winslet for Harper's Bazaar UK

Kate Winslet, and her cat-eye liner, are so so glam in April’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. The shoot is simple but its black and white imagery, soft lighting, and vampy attitude are absolutely perfect! By the way, check out Kate’s upper arms and shoulders. Remember, ladies: strong is sexy!

Friday Fashion: Inside the Closet of June Ambrose

"If my shoes could talk I'm pretty sure they would say: 'I want to dance with somebody; I want to feel the heat with somebody. We are the sole of fashion.'"

Earlier this week, I was thrilled to spy the Coveteur’s post on celebrity stylist extraordinaire, June Ambrose. Her wardrobe is everything one would expect: flamboyant yet chicly cool. And in case there are doubts, the girl loves shoes—so much so that she designed her very own for HSN (above and below). June named the collection Disco Paradise, the "perfect balance between fashion and function." The shoes are so gosh darn cute and affordable that I may just buy a pair!

Friday Fashion: My Pick for the Oscars' Best Dressed

Of course the choice is clear, but I wanted to document it officially: Charlize Theron was absolutely S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G in Dior Couture at Sunday's Academy Awards. I was most struck by her confident beauty. With barely-there makeup and a super-short pixie cut, Charlize commanded the red carpet and outshined many (I'd say most) of her overly-primped peers.

Though simple, Charlize had a small team, including a Dior tailor from Paris, to help assemble the look. Her stylist, Leslie Fremar, gives us a glimpse of the process via iPhone snaps.

Friday Fashion: L'Wren Scott Fall 2013 RTW

As tweeted, I'm all kinds of smitten by L’Wren Scott’s Fall 2013 RTW show. The collection, inspired by artist Gustav Klimt, is so glamorous it hurts – much like a super-sweet piece of chocolate cake. L'Wren was specifically inspired by Klimt's 'Golden Phase,' not only using gold leaf, fabrics, thread, and sequins, but patterns reminiscent of his famous paintings. Despite all of this decadence, the collection is totally wearable. A gold leather skirt? Sure! Why not?!
