The name Sukio comes from the Japanese word for "like" or "love" but now has become synonymous with what I find luxe, lovely, and too chic not to share! My aesthetic of choice: MODERN GLAMOUR – a style that marries multiple ideas, viewing traditional notions of glamour through a sophisticated lens. In a word, it’s sooo Sukio! - Desiré

Interiors: Martine Chaisson's Living Room Then & Now

Like personal style, our home’s décor can constantly evolve. A new accessory here, small tweaks there. Layout adjustments, art swapping, restyling… some rooms are never quite done. Such may be the case of Martine Chaisson’s living room. Thanks to Lonny and Domaine magazines, we see how the space has changed from then, streamlined modern with a touch of glam…

To now, richly-layered and multifunctional.

The most noticeable differences include luxe drapery, an ornate fireplace mantel, and a corner dining area. What do you think of the changes?

With the exception of a few tweaks, the remainder of Martine’s New Orleans apartment has changed little in the past few years. I still love the bar area and her glamorous little bedroom!

Interiors: Elle Décor's New Web Exclusive

As with Vogue's APT with LSD, Elle Décor recently published an editorial exclusively for online readers. This web-only shoot features the home of Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant where 70's baroque meets California craftsman plus a few quirky touches. Hopefully, "our first web-exclusive shoot" implies that there are many more to come. Like those with a need for speed or cravings for more cow bell, I have an insatiable hunger for fabulous interiors!

Interiors: Another Masculine Madrid Apartment

I can't get enough of these modern, Madridian bachelor pads. Today’s post features the eclectic home of fashion designer Miguel Palacio. This penthouse offers stunning views of Madrid’s skyline as well as a mix of vintage furniture, custom pieces, and a fab collection of photography.

Miguel's home is also a lesson in small-space design. High ceilings, opened up to the rafters, and ample natural light make up for square footage while well-placed mirrors and other shiny surfaces create visual space. Even the kitchen, hidden away by space-saving pocket doors, helps reflect light with glossy cabinets and a mirrored backsplash.

Interiors: Francesca Connolly's Brookyln Home

Francesca Connolly's Brookyln Home

Perhaps it's my northeast upbringing, but I just love a handsome, old townhouse. While some have memories of suburban cul-de-sacs, front yards, and garages, many of us view shared walls with the same nostalgic fondness. My childhood rowhome had the tiniest rooms but the tallest ceilings with molding and trim that are now considered luxuries. The walls were solid, dampening most noise from next door. But, once outside, neighbors chitchatted with ease, thanks to the community esplanade - a series of connected front porches up and down Muhlenberg Street. So, yes, I'm incredibly partial, but one doesn't need childhood memories to appreciate the gorgeous Brooklyn home of the Remodelista’s Francesca Connolly.

Francesa commissioned architect Steven Harris and interior designer Lucien Rees Roberts to remodel her 1890s townhouse, restoring it to the original floor plan. From there, the team worked together to create a minimalist home with modern furnishings and the occasional touch of glamour. Francesca aptly describes her home as the right white shirt. "Timeless, crisp, and respectful...," it fits her family and life perfectly.

Interiors: Athena Calderone's Brooklyn Penthouse

Athena Calderone's Brooklyn Penthouse, Harper's Bazaar

I’m sure you've seen them floating around by now – pics of Athena Calderone’s Brooklyn Penthouse courtesy of Harper's Bazaar. With its soaring ceilings and windows overlooking the East River, the architecture alone is enough to cause palpitations. Add Athena's unique approach to decorating this contemporary space, and you have pure magic. Eclectic, organic, modern, and glamorous—it all works.

Intrigued by Athena’s POV, I headed over to her blog, EyeSwoon, for a better sense of her style and sources of inspiration. The mood board for this design includes many images that I have posted on Sukio or elsewhere. She, too, is all about incorporating edge and mixing things up. "I’m always seeking that balance….a little bit of glam and a little bit of grit."

As you can tell by her super cute Peter Pilotto dress and decked out closet, Athena is a total fashionista. "I feel like I can't live without my Susie Homemaker side, baking and cooking, but I also can't live without fashion." I can dig it. Oh, and I’m diggin' those shoes, too.
