She's done it again! Upon seeing just one pic, I instantly knew the renovated common spaces at The Martin Las Vegas were by Kelly Wearstler. Why, just this week, I used a Kelly Wearstler Groundworks ad on the back of June's Elle Decor to explain her classic elements to the beau. Lo, the very next day, I see photos of The Martin with those same elements on full display. And looking pretty good too!

For me, the real kicker is that I could actually afford to live here. I, Desiré Greene, could enjoy these beautiful spaces by a world-famous designer and tastemaker! Ho hum. I’ll never look at my tiny condo the same again.

I'm not sure if she had a hand in the outdoor spaces, but they're cool so I added a pic.

New York Cottages & Gardens (NYC&G) debuted this spring and will most likely feature more condos and brownstones than cottages. I'm always game for more interior design inspiration. So, NYC&G, welcome!

Designer Jennifer Fischer’s Tribeca loft graces the cover of the mag's premiere issue. The space mixes modern with touches of glamour and a little edge. Oh and check out the shoe closet/ bathing combo. Nice.

Favorites include this redo of a 1920's Mediterranean-style home by designer Tamara Honey. Tamara anchors many of the rooms with glorious ebonized floors – a look I’m yearning to implement on a project at some point. I love it! Other design choices are just as bold and brilliant. For example, the breakfast nook's coral furniture stands in sharp contrast to the dark blue walls (Can you say "drama?").

Overall, this home reminds me to simply go for it. Have some guts! You can always change it up later.

I swear!):

I’ve become quite the fan of independent movies over the past few years. I’m not what you would call a “buff” but I probably see more than the average person. Last month, I screened The Hunter starring Willem Dafoe. It’s about this hunter/wilderness expert who is hired to track down the last Tasmanian tiger, an animal thought to be extinct (or is it???). The scenery is STUNNING. In fact, the film may be worth viewing just to catch a glimpse of the lush Tasmanian rainforest. I could add my lengthy review, but I’m sure you wouldn’t want to read it! :0)

In short, a solid B.

...

Seeking a change of pace, I searched online to find a highly-rated but new-to-me establishment for a friend’s birthday dinner. I settled on Belgian restaurant Brasserie Beck and it was well worth it. As to be expected, the mussels and frites were super tasty. After all, who can resist french fries?!?! Certainly not me. I also loved the pork belly appetizer (such fatty goodness!), and the dessert concoction mixing mango, coconut, and basil was strange but delicious. I felt like a judge on Food Network.

...

Lastly (at least for the purposes of this blog entry), I attended a panel discussion and screening of the documentary Bully. It’s such an important film, especially for parents and students. Go see it! And/or support the cause at thebullyproject.com. Again, I could write at length about this particular topic but I’m sure you’re aware. Bullying needs to be nipped in the bud. STAT.

...

Since I didn’t start these entries in March as planned, here are some bonus activities: Steve Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson at the National Press Club (He’s so smart and inspiring! Seriously. He made me want to write for a living) and the uber cute movie Salmon Fishing in the Yemen starring Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt.

Interiors: Lee Kleinhelter of Pieces

I'm so excited for Elle Decor's upcoming Modern Life Concept House. Opening later this month, the show house features an array of fabulous designers including Lee Kleinhelter of the furniture store Pieces.
When I was small, I had just about the worst case of chickenpox that my doctor had ever seen. Naturally, my mother stayed home from work to take care of me, eventually using up all available vacation days. Out of options, she did what she had to - she quit! A bold move for a low-income family. What can I say? My mommy loves me!

They let her keep her job (thankfully), but don't you just love her chutzpah?! So, this is dedicated to you, Mommy, and all moms everywhere who sacrifice in big and small ways daily. Putting your kids first is no small feat. And for this, we appreciate you!

Happy Mother’s Day!
