Interiors: Red, White, and Shades of Blue

Two spaces with old-world charm and mildly patriotic palettes

1. Bedroom by Olatz Schnabel - I wouldn't dare declare its shade of blue based on online photos. Somewhere between Baby and Tiffany, this bedroom proves that a few well-chosen pieces are all you need. The headboard, my favorite feature, is a fiberglass replica of Olatz’s bed back in Spain.

2. The Gramercy Park Hotel's Penthouse Suite - I blogged about this space just last week for its rich color palette. Perhaps red, white and Cornflower blue??? The suite hosts a collection of antiques from around the world and photographs curated by, get this,… Julian Schnabel, former husband of Olatz. The photos' imagery and simple framing add a modern element to an otherwise traditional setting.

And to my U.S. friends, Happy Independence Day! Here’s to our nation’s 237th birthday!
