DC Design: Weekend Links

Blissliving Home. The interior accessories company is adding London to its collection of wares. Applique pillows with red telephone booths and sheets with London’s skyline are coming to a blissful home near you.
CB2, 3307 M Street NW. Considering other locations across the country, the new CB2 in Georgetown is sure to wow. The nearly 13,000-square-foot space opens this spring.
District Architecture Center, 421 7th Street NW. Upon groundbreaking in March, Hickock Cole Architects will lead the charge in building what’s been called the “epicenter of Washington, DC architecture.”
Kelley Proxmire. Have a house that just won’t sell? Call Kelley! She’s not only an accomplished interior designer, but Kelley is also gifted at revamping long-for-sale homes for a timely turnaround.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. We’ve all seen the model, but in August you’ll see the real deal. Nearly five years after its ground-breaking, the MLK memorial will open near the Tidal Basin.
New York University Campus, 1307 L Street NW. Perhaps not a 2011 achievement, but still cool. NYU is coming to DC with a shiny, 75,000-square-foot building complete with classrooms, offices, and a 200-seat auditorium.
Petersen House, 516 10th Street NW. Here’s a lesson in history. After being shot in Ford’s Theater, Abraham Lincoln was carried to a private home next door where he later died. The home of William and Anna Petersen is now a national historic site and is set to reopen this spring after a bit of reno.
Empowerhouse. This may be my favorite link! Parsons The New School for Design will construct a carbon-neutral home in Deanwood during the Solar Decathlon competition this fall. Titled Empowerhouse, the home will use one-tenth the energy of its neighbors and will be sold via a no-interest loan. I’m pretty jealous of the future owner.
U.S. Institute of Peace, 1200 17th Street NW. I’ve passed the construction site countless times waiting for the day. This September, the day will arrive! Hope to see you at the grand opening of USIP’s new home. It’s modern, fraught with glass, and incredibly eco-friendly.
Well Built, 1541 14th ST NW. Sukio’s neighbor to the south will be hosting “Keeping it Close”, a panel discussion on local goods and eco-friendly design. Stop by on January 20th, 6-8pm.
